Post 41 – Trial – Kristie Koester (part 8)

Recross by Defense Pg. 644 Smith “Let’s try to make something very, very clear. At one point Jason was purchasing pennies, sorting them, and reselling them as a way to make money for your family, correct?” Koester “Yes.” Smith “And then at one point transitioned it to a fundraiser for the center?” Koester “Yes.” Smith “Okay, two very distinct entities?” Koester “Yes.” Smith “Okay. So to characterize it as a fundraiser would not be correct?” Koester “Correct.” Smith “Okay. So the same thing with Visalus?” Koester “Yes.” Smith “All right. At one point you guys are doing Visalus as a personal income generator for your family?” Koester “Yes.” Smith “And ultimately it transitioned away to a fundraiser for the center?” Koester “Yes.” Pg. 645 Smith “Okay. And had Jason historically worked with any other, done fundraisers for other nonprofits?” Koester “We did a fundraiser for the Petco Foundation.” Smith “We oddly have seen a lot of references to hot dogs. Do you know what foundation those were for?” Koester “We had like a hot dog, chip, and pop combo that they could purchase while we were doing the fundraiser.” Smith “For which organization?” Koester “For the Petco Foundation.” Smith “So those were connected to that, not to the Heights?” Koester “No.”

As it is easy to see, Jason and Kristie were active in Jason’s odd stuff that generated big returns for his family or for charity. This somehow was too much to figure out for the prosecutors. Some people like doing stuff outside the box.
